Living Beyond Limits

How do you envision your dream life? What’s stopping you from living your best life? Living beyond limits means achieving your fullest potential regardless of any obstacles or challenges you may face in life. Because let’s face it, it is life and things happen. Nothing and no one is perfect and that’s the beauty of it all.

Push Your Limits

“It’s a choice…what’s going to stop us and what’s not going to stop us. And we all have that choice every single day.” Amy Purdy

This is my favorite part right here, you don’t have to stay confined to imaginary lines (usually made up in your own mind or others).  These imaginary lines may be created by fear, lack of self confidence, financial or health reasons, Possibly even the nagging voice inside your head that says you can’t do it. If someone or something tells you that you can’t do something, you better be proving that you can.

I live with Erythropoietic Protoporphyria, a rare condition in which I can not tolerate UV rays. Once exposed to the sun (can only take 10-15 minutes) I have a severe reaction which causes intense pain and can last up to 3 days. It is a blood disorder which causes symptoms to show up on the part of my skin that is exposed. I experience a burning sensation which feels  like someone is torching my skin with fire and tearing it off. Some describe it as a chemical burn underneath the skin. There is no cure and no medication that aids in decreasing the symptoms.

Read more about it HERE.

Life as the sun-less girl

I could allow my condition to create limits, everything about my rare disease tells me to stay inside out of the sun. Well, guess what? I don’t want to sit inside, I love the outdoors and finding new adventures. I started to stock pile UV protective clothes in which I completely cover up every inch of my skin so I am not exposed. It is not attractive, I typically don’t match and it is very hot. Especially in the midst of summer. I step outside in hopes the sun doesn’t find it’s way through my layers of clothes.

As much as I hate covering up…it allows me the freedom to live my life. Challenge accepted! I push to see what activities I can do covered up as I try to extend my hour outside. I kayak, fish, bike, run…you name it and I do it. Nothing will stop me from living a life I dream of.

I will not be confined to the walls my disease creates for me. No obstacle or challenge should ever keep you from living your best life, use it as fuel to push your further.

Do It

“Stop wishing, start doing.” Anonymous

What is stopping you? You can talk often on how you want to do something, weather its a vacation, new career, beginning a workout or a crazy adventure. But that is all it ends up being, thoughts and talk. You just have to do it! Enough of the wishing and more doing. Make your dreams a reality, nothing is holding you back but your own mind.

Make a list of things you want to do and start checking off the boxes. You have one life so get out there and live it.

The more you try new things and do what you love, you open your mind up to so much more. The joy of doing truly increases your potential to live your best life.

Step outside of your comfort zone

“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” Neale Donald Walsch

You don’t gain anything from staying in your comfort zone. Staying in that zone is like hitting the replay button on your life every single day. What is the fun in that? Choose something everyday that scares you. Take a step, even if it’s small. Allow yourself to live life on the edge for once. Take a risk or try something new. Use the feelings of fear from the unknown to push you and make your life more exhilarating.

It truly is amazing what you find on the other side of your comfort zone. When you push past the silly  (typically false) 4 letter word called fear, you unleash countless opportunities. It is perfectly fine and completely acceptable to do it scared. In fact, it is proven that stepping out of your comfort zone and feeling a little anxiety helps you to perform at your peak.  It will grow you as an individual and make you more strong mentally.

Don’t get comfortable being comfortable. It is easy to sit at home without an agenda making excuses.  What do you get out of taking the easy route? All I hear is…BORING. Especially when there is endless opportunities to get out and see so much of what life and this world has to offer.

Explore More

“Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.” T.S. Eliot

Never stop exploring. Explore every aspect of life including yourself. Tap into the raw version of yourself. Take a trip, read a book, go for a walk or make a new friend. Experiencing new and exciting adventures not only creates awesome memories, but allows you to grow as a person. You really can find out a lot about yourself when you aren’t even looking.

Exploring gives you a glimpse of what living beyond limits could look like. Your mind wanders when you get out and explore. It’s a good type of wander. The type where you let go and allow the inner child to come out and dream more. So get out to see more. Even if it’s in your neighborhood and you will be surprised as to what you find physically and personally.

Live Life to the Fullest

“The purpose of life after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.” Eleanor Roosevelt

Honestly, what’s life if we don’t live it. We weren’t meant to work all day and come home and sit with our face glued to a TV. There is too much to see and do in this world for that to be alright. We are all born with a gift  and the best way to show thanks for it, is to get out and use it.

I was not given a rare disease of being allergic to the sun to keep me contained at home where it is safe. I was given it to prove that no matter what curve balls are thrown your way in life you make the best of it. You probably heard the saying, “when given lemons, make lemonade.” Well ladies and gentlemen I am over here making lemon bread, lemon cookies, lemon slushies and every other imaginable lemon recipe there is. Because why not!

You can look back on your life and see the same mundane tasks day in and day out. Possibly even regret. Or you can look back with absolute joy as you reminisce on your greatest memories and adventures.

So join me in doing it scared and knocking down the invisible walls that hold you back from living your best life!

You are amazing! My own comfort zone is quite narrow, so I’m always pushing myself to try new things and find that each time I do, it increases my confidence massively. At the moment I’m starting my own business and my blog (www.flylifepd.com.au/blog), which is waaaay scary! I’m much more comfortable keeping it all secret than putting it out there, but that won’t get me very far, will it? So I’m pushing myself each day to do something that feels uncomfortable.
I love your blog and think you’re very inspirational. xx

Congrats on the new blog I will check it out! Stepping out of your comfort zone is scary but so worth it when you see what really is on the other side. People want you to be real and open because then they can relate with you. Good luck you got this!!

I absolutely love this post and I admire you for still going out and exploring with your condition! I have a chronic condition too which isn’t the same as yours, but I know the struggle of overcoming boundaries that others don’t even have.

And I love what you said about pushing your limits in general. I noticed that whenever I set myself a seemingly impossible goal and really work on it, I suddenly am able to achieve it – or at least get close to it. As long as you believe in yourself, nothing is really impossible, even if you have to fail before you get it right.

Chronic diseases bring many obstacles but I love that you stay positive about it. We all are capable of so much more. We just have to believe in ourselves. Reach high girl you can do anything!

The way to make the most from life is to indeed do things that scare you and move past your comfort zone! This is what I’m telling myself daily or weekly. Thanks for this inspiration!
